Speed Controller
Left: The rotary speed controller is the round drum-shaped device. The central brass cylinder is a two pole commutator rotated by the gearmotor at the left. The controller provides 100 Hz chopped DC to the drive motor circuit through silver-graphite brushes. The movable brush assembly is advanced or retarded by a foot pedal to increase or decrease the percent of "ON" time. Three magnetic contactor switches can be seen, bottom right, below the bundled power cables that carry battery voltage to the motor circuit.
Right: The quick change axle housing is at the bottom above the V-shaped cross member.
