| This view of the lower main vertical strut shows the 3" diameter x 1/2" wide, two-shoe, internal expanding brake. The axle has not been installed at this stage of construction. The brakes are operated by air pressure through a servo controlled proportional valve. Flexible air lines are 1/8" OD nylon. The torque links incorporate a down travel limit stop. The lower strut tube is 7/8" OD x 0.065" wall 4130 steel tubing that slides in the honed inner diameter of the upper strut tube. The bare brake drum is shown at the right before drilling for mounting to the inside of a main wheel. The scale at the bottom of the image is 6" long. |
